My Story

Hi. My name is Don O'Keefe.

I am a registered Music Together teacher and the director of Music Together of
Greater Danbury, LLC. Music Together is an international, research based,

music and movement program for children from birth through 8 years....

and the adults who love them.
The program has been around for over 35 years

and I have been teaching and directing it for the past 20.

My father was a drummer and thanks to him I have been playing drums and
percussion all of my life. I studied performance and professional music at Berklee
College of Music in Boston, MA in the early 80's. My time at Berklee was
instrumental in my development as a drummer, professional musician and teacher.

I have performed professionally with a variety of bands both live and in
studios. My recording experience includes records at

The Hit Factory & The Manhattan Center Studios in New York City.

Some of the many notable musicians I have worked with include: Joan Osborne,
Dave Rosenthal, Eileen Ivers, Geoffrey Blythe & Thomas Hamlin.

I was a founding member of, and performed with

Speir Mor/The Pat McGuire Band, for over 15 years,

playing extensively along the EastCoast including an appearance on national TV

on the Late Night with Conan O’Brian Show.
While playing with Pat we shared stages with the likes of, The Band,
Squeeze, Tower of Power, The Pogues, Black 47, Joan Osborne & Mary Black.

I was fortunate to study privately for a summer with one of my childhood idols,
the late, great, Joe Morello, from the Dave Brubeck Band.

Joe was one of the preeminent masters of technique and what

I learned from him that summer I pass on to my students to this day.

I believe that you should be a student of your craft forever. Once you stop
learning you stop growing. To that end I currently study with a professor at the
Berklee College of Music, Henrique De Almeida.

I am a member of the Sabian Education Network, (SEN),

The Professional Drum Teachers Guild of America, (PDTGA),

and The Percussive Arts Society, (PAS).

I currently live in Brookfield, CT with my wife and 2 kids & teach all ages & skill levels

from my home studio and online. I believe that every drummer, teacher and student alike, has a unique
voice to offer to the drum community. Anyone willing to put in the time, can, with
the proper guidance become proficient at the drums. If I can do it, you can too.

I would love the opportunity to help you or your kids on your musical journey.
